For the fourth time in less than a decade, a commission is in place taking testimony about the use of cameras in the courts of New York state.
This is a matter thoroughly examined and fully discussed. The facts about the impact of cameras in the court no longer are at issue.
What remains intact is the implacable opposition by some to cameras under any circumstances. Over the years, the Legislature has piled restriction upon constraint each time it authorized yet another study commission, and in the process has screened cameras from entire segments of the criminal justice system.
