As Ladies of Charity, Mary Davitt and Mary Beth O'Brien bring a 17th-century ideal to 20th-century problems.

The women each have volunteered their services and raised money for the past 25 years to assist the hungry, poor and needy through the auspices of Catholic Charities of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany.

``The face of poverty is the same today that St. Vincent de Paul saw in 1617, only with different clothes,'' says O'Brien, 57, of Albany, a mother of six.
