Gregory Eady was so young when his grandparents gave him his teddy bear that he can't quite remember when it was. But Gregory, who just turned 11, vividly remembers the bear helping him through a kidney transplant four years ago.
He brought the brown plush bear, named Teddy, with him to Albany Medical Center for the transplant surgery after a viral infection following a case of chicken pox damaged his kidneys. He kept Teddy in his hospital room, and found that he could confide in the bear his fears about getting shots and swallowing pills.
