TROY -- She had cardiac problems that ultimately killed her, but when 14-year-old Katie Slade played hockey she was all heart, as well as courage and tenacity.
And those are among the qualities that will be necessary to win a new award dedicated Sunday in Slade's name by the Troy Academy Youth Hockey Association with whom she played. A recipient will be named at the end of the hockey season annually.
Slade was a Colonie Central High School freshman who maintained an `A' average, and, besides hockey, played shortstop on the girls's freshman softball team, as well as several musical instruments. She died in ...
