Growing up in Davidson, N.C., Brenda Tapia and her friends would spend hours playing church. ``They would be shouting and I would be preaching,'' she says.
But it never occurred to this little girl or her pretend congregation that she'd go on to be a real minister someday. That was what men did.
``I didn't see my first female minister until I was 33 years old,'' says Tapia, who's now 46, an ordained Presbyterian minister and assistant chaplain at Davidson College. ``It's a new day. And we have to have a new ministry. I think God is using women to usher in this new age.''
