NEW YORK -- State Attorney General Dennis Vacco sued Thursday to shut down an adoption agency that he says collected as much as $30,000 from couples who wanted a child but never received one.

Vacco's lawsuit, filed in Manhattan's State Supreme Court, named Today's Adoption Agency and Stanley B. Michelman, a lawyer suspended from practicing law in 1994 for improper adoption activities, said Vacco spokeswoman Jennifer Farina.
