Jan. 6--It's still not legal to drive golf carts on Destin streets and sidewalks, even though the city's ban won't take effect for two years.
The City Council voted in December for a policy banning golf carts from using city streets unless the carts are modified into low-speed vehicles with rear-view mirrors, seat belts, brake lights and other additions. The council voted to phase in the policy over the next two years, so that residents could prepare for the estimated $1,500 it can cost to modify the carts.
Regardless of city policy, City Manager Greg Kisela told the City Council Tuesday, state law still bans unmodified ...
