Jan. 6--A United Way survey reveals a hidden side of Allen County.
Thirty-six percent of children in poverty are under 18 years old. Eighteen percent of children in Allen County live in poverty compared to 13 percent of children statewide. One reason why: 2,000 jobs were lost in Allen County last year. "So many in the outlying areas think everything's fine because they see new growth," said Jerry Peterson, president and chief executive officer of the United Way of Allen County.
