Commercial and residential real estate sales in the Capital Region have fallen 5.4 percent in the first nine months of the year as property buyers continue to be scarce.

In the first nine months, $980.4 million worth of real estate was sold in the four-county Capital Region, down from $1.03 billion in the same period a year ago, according to a Times Union study of real estate records.

Three years ago, $1.19 billion worth of property changed hands.

In the third quarter, $393.7 million worth of property changed hands, down 8.6 percent from $431.2 million in the same period a year ago.
