Deep into its obituary on the poet Allen Ginsberg, after chronicling his life, explaining his work and bringing some context to his permanent influence on American literature and culture, The New York Times offered, almost as an aside, ``Through it all, he kept writing.''
How true. Mr. Ginsberg's legacy, of a disarming sort of outrageousness and of verse that made stream of consciousness an art form like never before, is one of prolificacy and sheer endurance as well. Even as he died last week at the age of 70, he was writing, in bed, almost to the end, including a poem called ``On Fame and Death.''
