Allergy shots do not provide additional benefits to children with moderate or severe year-round asthma who are being given the proper medications to treat the disease, researchers reported today. Their study is expected to heighten the controversy over the effectiveness of the widely used injections.
Although research has shown that shots can prevent allergy symptoms like a runny nose and itchy eyes in many patients, the evidence is not as strong that such treatment can prevent asthma attacks or lessen their severity, especially in people with multiple allergies and asthma that occurs all year round rather than just seasonally.
