After I'd gotten off the plane at Tan Son Nhut Airport, gone through customs and walked out the glass doors marked SORTIE into the thick heat of Saigon, I saw Patrick looking cool and crisp, waiting outside for me, smiling.
After I hugged and kissed him as you do a son who's been living 12,000 miles away, I said, ``Do you know where I can buy old Zippo lighters? You know, the ones from the Vietnam War that the GIs carried?''
And he said, ``Sure, Mom,'' and then we forgot about it on the ride into the city, because he had been gone a long time from Chicago and we had many things to talk about.
