Jan. 7--In about a month Carolyn Collette will be tossing beads until she is sore, and on Saturday her throwing arm got some practice.

Hundreds of Southeast Texans scrambled for the beads thrown by krewe royalty at the annual Twelfth Night celebration in Port Arthur, which kicks off the city's Mardi Gras season. "Throwing beads is more fun than catching them," said Collette, co-captain of the Majestic Krewe of Aurora.
