The contestants: the ubiquitous McDonald's french fry and the ``new'' Burger King version.

After the two plates full of french fries disappeared (washed down by icy beverages to cleanse the palate) and the scent of potato began to dissipate, the Burger King fry, energized by a new recipe and a colorful ad campaign, emerged victorious.
