WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis. -- On a gray day, the indoor water park at Black Wolf Lodge looked like a mirage of summer days long past.
Which didn't make my children doubt it for an instant. When they caught sight of the bright-yellow tubes bobbing along a river, and the waterfalls cascading into warm pools, and the two-story totems looming over a thicket of slides and chutes, they bolted out the door and were gone.
Occasionally, my friend Andi and I would catch sight of them between rides, big grins pasted to their faces. ``They're on autopilot,'' Andi remarked. ``They're pumped.''
