The CIA knew that Douglas F. Groat had been fired from a job with the Glenville Police Department but the incident did not disqualify him from consideration by the agency, a federal official said Monday.
``The CIA was aware of all of the circumstances surrounding (Groat's) service with the Glenville Police Department,'' a U.S. official familiar with the spy case said.
Groat, 50, a former CIA agent who grew up in Glenville, was charged Friday with espionage and attempted extortion. Groat, a CIA employee for 16 years, was hired in 1980, placed on administrative leave in 1993 and fired in ...
