Maranda Ireland-Smith, the 3-year-old whose parents' custody battle triggered a raging national debate over day care, will remain with her mother while the case is reviewed, the Michigan Court of Appeals decided Tuesday.
Jennifer Ireland learned of the news from reporters as she returned to her mother's Harrison Township home from a trip with Maranda to Sea World in Ohio.
``I haven't had time to sit and think about it; it's overwhelming,'' Ireland, 19, said. ``But it feels wonderful to know her life isn't going to be disrupted again.''
The court-ordered transfer to Maranda's father, Steven Smith, 20, was to have taken place on Thursday.
