DEBATE continued last week over the future of the Canadian Wheat Board's (CWB) monopoly powers over selling wheat and barley, with supporters and detractors exchanging claims and Canada's House of Commons passing a motion to give farmers the final say over CWB's future.

The minority Conservative government said Canadian grain growers will have a chance to vote early next year on whether to end CWB's single desk powers over barley. The government said it campaigned in January's election on a promise to end the monopoly powers over wheat and barley.
