Abbey Neckwear Ltd. believes it's found the answer to a timeless ascot dilemma -- keeping the British tie firmly in place.
The Montreal-based firm has just come out with a self-tying ascot. Marketed under the firm's Open Tie Shirt (OTS) label, the new neckwear item's secret weapon is Velcro.
"Normally an ascot is tied in a similar way to a necktie. In the old days, it used to slip," noted Michael Slaff, senior vice-president of Abbey. "This [new ascot] fits around the neck with a Velcro fastener."
Abbey, which has a sales office in New York, was recently granted a patent on the product in the U.S., the UK and Canada.
