People with muscular dystrophy turn to film star/comedian Jerry Lewis for help in gaining a "feeling of nobility" and becoming "better people." For 27 years Jerry Lewis and his Muscular Dystrophy Association Telethon have been raising millions of dollars for research and treatment of the 40 forms of neuromuscular disease. Every moment of his annual Labor Day telethon is devoted to raising money, and Lewis employs a variety of persuasive techniques toward that goal.
