Jan. 9--DAYTONA BEACH -- Tony Raines set the pace Monday in the opening round of January stock-car testing at Daytona International Speedway.
Raines, in a Chevrolet from Hall of Fame Racing, zipped to a lap of 183.974 miles an hour on the 2.5-mile track in a morning session. Rain washed out an afternoon practice, prompting NASCAR toadd a Thursday session for the odd numbered finishers in last year's car owner standings. Even numbered finishers practice next week.
Last year's Daytona 500 winner Jimmie Johnson was second at 183.869 in his fi rst time on the track since breaking his wrist in a golf cart accident. High Point's Dave Blaney was third at ...
