Area dealers say a prolonged strike by General Motors workers could affect sales in the next few weeks, and some say they're seeing a drop in customer interest.
The strike by about 9,200 parts plants workers in Flint, Mich., have cut off the supply of key parts and resulted in nearly 99,000 layoffs at GM assembly and component plants in the United States, Mexico and Canada. Thousands of other workers for independent suppliers also have been idled.
So far, area inventories have not been affected, according to Jim Morrell, owner of Action Chevrolet Subaru Geo in Brunswick. Morrell said GM keeps ...
