There was a whale of a lot of fishin' going on this long holiday weekend. Almost anywhere you dropped a line, from Long Pond in Willsboro to the Esopus Creek in Phoenecia, anglers had something nibbling at their bait.
Shad are still the hot item, and the return of these tasty fish has gourmets polishing the skillets for a good old-fashioned feast. Then there are the walleye, northern pike, trout, and crappie. If you follow the advice of the man with the megaphone, you gotta ``get 'em while they're hot.''
