A family affair called ``A Boy Called Hate'' opened last month in New York and Los Angeles for a brief, dismal theatrical run. It will be released to other cities next week -- on tape.
Twenty-year-old Scott Caan makes his movie debut in the title role: a motherless young man with baggy clothes, a gun and an attitude. James Caan (Scott's dad) plays his drunken lout of a father, and Elliott Gould is an older man who tries to rape a young woman (Missy Crider) Scott rescues. Written and directed by Mitch Marcus, this R-rated road movie won a minor European festival award last year.
