In a dramatic display of power in the bottom of the ninth inning, Atlanta Braves first baseman Fred McGriff smashed a towering, gametying home run that gave the National League the chance to win the 65th annual All-Star game in the next inning when Montreal's Moises Alou doubled to score San Diego's Tony Gwynn.
The come-from-behind, 8 to 7 win at Pittsburgh's Three Rivers Stadium broke the American League's string of six consecutive victories and marked the National League's first triumph in the mid-summer classic since 1987.
