Lake Nancy in the Saratoga County town of Providence originally started out as a sawmill pond in the late 1870s and was named Bills Pond after the owner of the mill, Royal A. Bills.

The rights to the mill pond were acquired around the same time by the Kennyetto Reservoir Co. to use as a large storage reservoir to regulate the supply of water to power the Broadalbin Knitting Mills.

As other water supplies became available, Bills Pond was abandoned until around 1924, when it was purchased by Saratoga County and renamed Lake Nancy. The county rebuilt the dam and added a power house and generator to produce ...
