TROY -- Duane Gabriel was accused in Rensselaer County Court on Wednesday of being a coldblooded murderer with little remorse and defended as a mentally ill young man whose inner rage over an abusive childhood triggered the shooting of a Poestenkill man and his son two years ago.
The mystery surrounding this quiet, 19-year-old redhead and the Hathaway family, who took him into their Cathlie Drive home during the summer of 1994, started to unfold as a jury began hearing testimony in the emotionally charged case.
