Plywood is one of the most versatile, time-saving building products available to do-it-yourselfers, but it has some inherent problems that must be overcome for best results.
Plywood sheets, generally available in thicknesses ranging from one-quarter to three-quarter inch, eliminate the need to glue up narrow boards for large projects, and provide excellent stability and strength. Splitting and warping, which are common with boards, are rare with plywood.
