SAN ANTONIO In time exposures focused for days on an obscure dot in the universe, the Hubble Space Telescope photographed the faintest stars and galaxies ever seen some 4 billion times dimmer than what is visible to the naked eye.
``Most of these galaxies have never been seen before,'' said Robert E. Williams, director of the Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore. Just how old the galaxies are has not been determined. They could be the most distant, and hence the oldest, ever detected, he said.
