The Manhattan String Quartet begins a five-season series of retrospective concerts Saturday in Kiggins Hall of the Emma Willard School in Troy.
The Troy Friends of Chamber Music has invited one of its favorite ensembles to take an extended approach to some of the special developments in the string quartet realm during the 20th century -- the Century of the Avant-Garde.
Each of the annual concerts -- running through 2000 -- features a string quartet by Ludwig van Beethoven, who revolutionized the form and content of the string quartet in the 19th century.
