TOKYO _ Japanese researchers are reporting that hops, which give beer its bitter taste, are effective in mitigating various symptoms of hay fever, it has been learned.
While hops were known to be effective for the treatment of tumors, the joint research found for the first time that they are also effective for alleviating the symptoms of some types of hay fever.
The team, researches from the Wakayama Japanese Red Cross Medical Center and Sapporo Breweries Ltd., will report on its findings at an annual meeting of the Japan Society for Bioscience, Biotechnology and Agrochemistry to be held in March in Tokyo.
