Atmosphere Weather and Climate first appeared in 1986 and immediately found wide acceptance among both sixth-formers and undergraduates wanting a non-technical, introductory atmospheric text. The arrival of the sixth edition is like having an old friend turn up -- rather plumper indeed broader than when young, but still sleek and well groomed. Given the transformation that has taken place in climatology it is perhaps surprising, and certainly a tribute to the authors that they have managed to keep A, W & C (as several generations of students have known it) up-to-date and in the forefront of introductory texts.
