Morocco, Tunisia, and Libya (at least western Libya) are all part of the Maghreb, the westernmost part of the Arab world, and share a number of features in common-especially ethnicity, language, and religion. What is striking, however, is the extent to which they differ. This is a consequence partly of their physical geography, involving different topographic features and climates, differing carrying capacities of the land, and the uneven natural resource base.
