SANTIAGO -- FleetBoston Financial Corp. plans to increase by one-third the number of its bank branches in Chile, resuming a stalled expansion to win wealthy Chilean customers. FleetBoston's Chilean unit plans to spend $4 million to increase its branches to 32 by the end of 2001 from 24 now, mainly in the capital's wealthiest neighborhoods. The bank also plans to open a $25 million headquarters in a posh uptown business hub early next year in a bid to gain more customers.
