Next time you're at a garage sale and you see a rectangular Pyrex glass baking pan, whip out a tape measure. If the pan is 12 inches long, buy it on the spot.
A good many years back, for some odd reason, Pyrex changed its 9-by-12-inch glass baking pan to a 9-by-13-inch baking pan. An inch didn't seem like a big deal, the new-size pan just held a little more lasagna than the original. That inch didn't even make enough of a difference to rewrite all the old recipes that specified a 9-by-12 pan. The old recipes worked in the new pan, cakes and brownies and bar cookies just came out a little thinner than they once did.
