Jan. 12--HAMPTON -- After turning down a request by Gov. Timothy M. Kaine to champion a bill that would double the size of the committee trying to oversee the future of Fort Monroe, state Del. Tom Gear, R-Hampton, has submitted a resolution asking for another group to study possibilities for the Army post. The only similarity between Kaine's bill and Gear's resolution is that both call for 14 people to serve on the committees.
Fort Monroe will cease operation as an Army post in September 2011, then revert to the state, which deeded it to the federal government to build a fort nearly 200 years ago. This is the latest ...
