COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Johnny Vander Meer has nothing on U.S. Olympic softball pitcher Lisa Fernandez.
Vander Meer is the only major league baseball pitcher to throw consecutive no-hitters, accomplishing it in 1938 for the Cincinnati Reds.
But Fernandez has pitched four consecutive perfect games for the U.S. national team on its ``Central Park to Sydney'' Olympic preparation tour.
No batter has reached base against Fernandez, of Long Beach, Calif., in 30 innings. USA Softball officials said Thursday they can't recall a pitcher ever having even three consecutive perfect games against any competition.
