Jan. 13--HARLINGEN -- Like hundreds of customers this week, John David Lopez didn't have pesos when he walked into Pizza Patron. But even when he paid in dollars, he smiled at the big, flashy poster on the pizza parlor's window. "Bienvenido paisano! Accepta-mos Pesos," or "Welcome, compatriot! We accept Pesos," the sign reads. That's no big deal in the Rio Grande Valley, where stores have long accepted Mexican currency. And the closer a store lies to the border, the more likely its cash registers jingle with pesos.
