NEW YORK -- Clifton Daniel, who served as managing editor of The New York Times after a career as a foreign correspondent in London, the Middle East and Moscow, died Monday at 87.
The North Carolina native died at his home in New York of a stroke and heart disease, said his son, Clifton Truman Daniel. Daniel is survived by his widow, Margaret Truman Daniel, the only child of former President Harry Truman and his wife, Bess; four sons; and five grandchildren.
