Troy New state regulations taking effect on March 15 will allow owners of light pickup trucks to obtain passenger-class license plates, making it possible for the vehicles to travel legally on New York's parkways, Rensselaer County Clerk Frank Merola said.
Currently, nearly all pickup trucks in New York must be registered as commercial vehicles and are prohibited from operating on the state's 44 parkways, according to an announcement from Merola.
The new rules will allow open-bed pickup trucks weighing up to 5,000 pounds to display passenger plates if the truck is free from commercial advertisement and is not used for any commercial enterprise. The new ...
