ALBANY -- Audiences have crowded The Egg's 982-seat Hart Theatre to near capacity for three successive nights so far this week, making the touring production of Eve Ensler's ``The Vagina Monologues'' an unusual hit.

The success of ``Monologues'' -- a spare play with genitalia in the title, performed on a bare stage by actresses who haven't memorized their lines -- appears to be due to a combination of factors, including a huge promotional campaign and subject matter that attracts audiences who don't usually go to the theater.
