NEW YORK -- Gordon Davis has resigned as president of Lincoln Center after less than a year, departing as the nation's largest performing arts complex plans a $1.5 billion renovation.
Davis, the first black to lead the center, sent his letter of resignation to Lincoln Center's chairwoman, Beverly Sills, on Thursday. The letter was made public by the center on Friday.
``After nine months in this position it is clear to me, as you and I have discussed, that things are not working out in the way either of us hoped or expected,'' he said, without going into detail.
