Bethlehem A proposal to build the biggest shopping center in town history has pitted those wanting to see lower taxes and more shopping convenience against those concerned about safety on an already congested Route 9W.

More than 200 people packed the auditorium at Town Hall for a 3-hour public hearing on Nigro Companies' proposed 357,000-square-foot, five-building shopping center. The Bethlehem Town Center would feature a 24-hour Wal-Mart Supercenter measuring 203,000-square-feet, or about five football fields.
