Jeff Smith wants to buy health insurance for his family, but the self-employed landscaper is struggling to find an affordable plan.
He could purchase coverage through the Albany-Colonie Regional Chamber of Commerce, but proposed monthly premiums for sole proprietors exceeding $700 are not attractive. But those rates are a couple of hundred dollars less than what Smith could get if he bought health insurance on his own.
The Cohoes resident had received coverage though his wife's employer, but she recently changed jobs and cannot get new insurance until spring.
