As mental health advocates, we appreciate the Times Union's coverage of the horrid conditions that exist in some adult homes, where approximately 12,000 individuals with mental illnesses reside. The Mental Health Association in New York State is clearly skeptical when it comes to government's proposed fixes. We are concerned that much of the plan revolves around doing things that have long been required by law and simply ignored -- such as evaluation, medication management and access to competent medical care.
