This attractive and impressive book (the proceedings of the fifth of the Reisenburger Gesprache, 8-10 June 1990) consists of a series of studies examining connections between European literature and academic disciplines, notable philosophy, from the Middle Ages to the nineteenth century. One might expect a collection of interdisciplinary studies on so wide a theme to lack either cohesion or adequate attention to detail, but this is far from being the case.
