ALBANY -- New York's auto insurance rates remain among the highest in the nation, according to the latest figures from the National Association of Insurance Commissioners.
New York ranked third among all the states with an average annual premium of $935.64. Only New Jersey ($977.07) and Massachusetts ($945.61) had higher average premiums in 2000, the latest year for which statistics are available.
The national average for 2000 was $686.71.
The numbers are compiled annually by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners.
