Jan. 15--SPRING VALLEY LAKE -- Wade Perry remembers when three branches from a neighbor's Chinese elm fell on his house in Spring Valley Lake after one of those terrific storms a couple years ago.

The people living next door were renters, so despite repeated requests from Perry to trim the tree before the storm, they did nothing. Neither did the landlord, who lives in La Canada.

"I had tried to contact him to have a conversation," said Perry, who had been concerned about his children getting hurt by falling branches from the diseased tree.
