Permanently caged and facing little possibility but death, dozens of pit bulls that may have been trained for fighting are tearing the spirits at the Dane County Humane Society shelter facility on Voges Road.
"The pall of the pit bulls hangs over the facility," said Human Society board president Cathy Holmes. "It's hard. This isn't as positive a place as it had been in the past."
Morale among the staff at the shelter has suffered, with no end to the pit bull story in sight.
