New hope for ovarian cancer: cutting-edge research into new treatments and potential tests are improving the outlook for women.(Disease/Disorder overview)

Ovarian cancer is the deadliest of gynecologic cancers. This year in the United States, ovarian cancer will strike an estimated 20,180 women and it will kill an estimated 15,310. It's so deadly, in part, because there's no way to detect it early; 75 percent of women are diagnosed at late stages, when a cure is more difficult. But this grim outlook is changing, thanks to new research, targeted treatments, and a blood test that could be approved soon.
